Last Thursday saw the 10th anniversary of Leeds RAG Fashion Show at the University of Leeds, an annual fashion show bringing together some of the best talent from around the world in the areas of fashion, beauty and the creative arts in aid of charity. This year saw the biggest celebration yet, with a sold out show in support of Leeds Mind and Dementia UK. This being my first year at university, this anniversary show was my first taste of LRFS, and definitely won't be my last.

The show, entitled TIME.LESS, was a multi-faceted celebration of life and time in all its candour. Through fashion pulled from labels from all over the world, LRFS showcased five scenes encapsulating the themes of life as old as time: BIRTH., WAR., PEACE., DEATH. and RE.

As per the disclaimer, most of these photos are not my own (the photos I took were not worthy) and so I don't have photos for for BIRTH. (which featured a Yeezy-like neutral palette and elevated basics).

What followed the genesis was the enormous chaos of WAR. Think anger, violence, anarchy and conflict as imagined by Marc Jacobs sent storming down the runway to Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West. My personal sartorial highlight of the night.

As if directed by Tolstoy himself, after WAR. came the inevitable PEACE., an eclectic mix of what I can only describe as bohemian, new-age occasion-wear and futuristic regality. The photo below (apologies for the Snapchat quality) poorly shows an example of one of my favourite looks of the night, which I can only describe as an "intergalactic millionaire shroud".

The moodiest and most artistic collection of the night for me was DEATH. (first picture) which featured a compelling ballet display alongside the models on the catwalk. The looks were dark, slick, polished and tough, the sort of thing I imagine consumed Hedi Slimane's dreams during his time at YSL.

The grande finale, however, was the true showstopper. After the elevated sophistication of the previous two collections, the frivolous fashion that cascaded down the catwalk to a soundtrack of pop and disco classics at the end truly encapsulated the feeling of a RE.VIVAL. The euphoria of a new beginning after an end, the spirit of youth and energy, demonstrated not just by the clothes but also by the models, was infectious. This was a true celebration of life and joy, of possibility and a unique sense of power and confidence that is embodied by the clothes, but that also comes from the clothes themselves. The look and the attitude, and the models in many cases, went hand in hand down the catwalk, topping off what was an outstanding show.

Congratulations to everyone involved and here's to next year!
